Meet our newest 166g Naked GoPro carrier!

Updated: Aug 25

We've introduced a new range of aircraft to our fleet of cinewhoop drones based around an 85mm brushless frame from BetaFPV. It's smaller and lighter than our larger three inch ducted 'whoops', though consequently dislikes wind even more!

It's built in a pusher configuration (motors under-slung to keep propellers out of shot), which has recently (August 2020) been adopted by BetaFPV themselves and sold as the V2 85X. The hardware also incorporate parts from the Umma85 modification kit, mainly the clean plate on which the camera and battery sit on.

You'll notice an unfamiliar camera atop the drone. This is actually a de-cased GoPro Hero 6 Black running 1.6 firmware. By dicarding all but the motherboard and lens of the camera, around 100g can be saved, opening it up to being mounted on much smaller aircraft.

I have another GoPro to strip soon, so will go into a bit more detail on that in the near future.

If you want to see how we made the 85x, I've uploaded below videos of how we built each of the drones we're now using commercially for some more dynamic shots.

And here's what we can do with it!

We've got plenty more adventures planned with this aircraft. It's proving a very capable alternative to our other FPV platforms and we're certain this is where drones and cameras are heading.

If you have a site, event or project where you need some dynamic proximity flights, please get in touch to see how we can bring this to life!
